Veil Privacy Policy

Veil ("we", "our", "us") provides the Veil VPN client app (package name: com.veil.vpn).

Veil is a VPN client. We do not operate public VPN servers inside the app. You connect using your own server/provider profiles.

1. Scope

This Privacy Policy explains what information Veil processes, how it is used, and your choices.

2. Information We Process

A. Information processed and stored on your device

Veil stores app data locally to provide VPN client features, including:

• VPN profiles and related settings (for example: remark, host/address, port, protocol, TLS/SNI, routing options)
• Profile groups and subscription source URLs
• Split tunneling lists (selected app package names for include/exclude)
• Ping/history and connection state details
• App preferences and feature toggles
• Cached remote configuration payload

Where supported, sensitive workspace cache data is stored using secure storage provided by the operating system.

B. Information used for optional secure link features (veil://)

If you use Veil secure import/export features with device lock:

• A device fingerprint is derived on-device and converted to a hash
• The hash is used only for secure link protection logic
• We do not send your raw device fingerprint to our servers as part of this feature

C. Information sent over the network

Veil sends network requests in these cases:

• When you update/import subscriptions from a URL you provide
• When the app fetches built-in remote config content (for example app message/ad config)
• When ads are enabled and loaded (Google Mobile Ads / AdMob)
• When you connect to a VPN profile, your traffic is routed through the VPN server/provider you selected

These services may receive network metadata such as IP address, request headers (including user agent), and timestamps.

3. Permissions We Request

Depending on platform/version and features you use, Veil may request:

• INTERNET: connect VPN and fetch subscriptions/config
• ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE: network and reconnect behavior
• QUERY_ALL_PACKAGES: split tunneling app picker (list installed apps)
• REQUEST_IGNORE_BATTERY_OPTIMIZATIONS: improve VPN background reliability
• FOREGROUND_SERVICE and VPN service permissions: keep active VPN tunnel running
• Camera permission (QR import scanner)
• Advertising ID permission (AD_ID) when ads are enabled

4. How We Use Information

Veil uses Android VpnService to establish a secure IP-level tunnel to the VPN server selected by the user. Veil does not inspect or store the content of users' web traffic passing through the tunnel. Veil may process limited technical and app data required to operate features (such as connection status, ping results, split-tunneling app selection, and local configuration storage), and third-party services may process data under their own privacy policies.

We process information to:

• Import, parse, and manage VPN configurations
• Establish and maintain VPN connection state
• Show connection metrics (for example speed, ping, session time)
• Support split tunneling selection
• Improve connection reliability and user troubleshooting
• Display banner/interstitial ads when configured

5. Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal data.

Data may be shared/processed by third parties only as needed for app functionality:

• Google Mobile Ads (AdMob) for ad delivery/measurement when ads are enabled
• Your selected VPN server/provider when you connect
• Subscription/remote-config hosts when you fetch content from URLs

6. What We Do Not Collect as an Account Service

Veil does not require account signup in the app and does not directly require name, email, or phone number to use core VPN client features.

7. Data Retention

• Local app data remains on your device until you edit/delete it, clear app data, or uninstall the app.
• Cached settings/config may be refreshed or overwritten during normal app operation.
• Third-party services (ad networks, VPN providers, subscription hosts) retain data under their own policies.

8. Security

We apply reasonable technical measures to protect local data and app operations, including:

• Secure storage usage where available
• Optional encrypted secure link format (veil://)
• Input validation for imported configs

No method of storage or transmission is 100% secure.

9. International Data Transfers

Because you choose VPN/subscription/ad services that may operate globally, your data may be processed in countries other than your own.

10. Children's Privacy

Veil is not intended for children. We do not knowingly target children with this app. Our Play Console target audience is adults.

11. Your Choices

You can:

• Delete profiles/groups in the app
• Disable or avoid optional features you do not want to use (for example QR import, split tunneling, subscription URLs)
• Clear app storage from system settings
• Uninstall the app at any time

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post updates with a revised "Last updated" date.
